Welcome to my ZN8 build site. It is a reverse-chronological journal of the light modifications I've done to my 2023 Toyota GR86. Thank you for checking it out!
After a lot of deliberation I decided to go with a set of WedsSports TC105Xs. I got these through IntecRacing in Kent, WA (thank you Min!) and they sent me a bunch of awesome Weds merch along with beating any price I saw online. Huge shout out to them.
Here's the in-depth fitment details for posterity:
I probably could've gone with a more aggressive spacer (3mm is probably the max spacer size you want to go before getting extended studs), but I think it looks plenty flush as it is.
Eventually I'll want to dial in more negative camber in the front to bring it to -2.5° or more, but alignments are expensive so it'll have to wait for now.
Finally got fed up with getting blinded by lifted F-150's riding my ass, so I got a 15% tint on the rear and rear-quarters (which is technically... extra-legal in WA state) and a 30% tint on the side windows.
I ordered a set of HKS Hipermax S coilovers through IntecRacing in Kent, WA and also had them install them. A coilover installation was a bit outside of my comfort zone and, honestly, the peace of mind knowing they were properly installed was worth it to me.
I stuck with the default HKS factor specs, which was a 26mm front/28mm rear drop. After a few days of letting the weight of the car sit on the new springs, I got an alignment. It turns out the driver side rear has a lot more negative camber (-0.4°) unrelated to the coilovers, but after talking with other owners online this appears to be a fairly common and benign problem. If it ever bothered me too much, I can always install RLCA's.
My fitment is now very tucked. Wheels will come eventually.
Installed some Alpha Rex LUXX-Series LED Tail Lights Alpha-Black tail lights. I didn't see many people running the Alpha-Black variant, and I thought it would fit the purple wrap well. I think it turned out okay!
Readers with sharp eyes will notice that this picture is from after the coilover install. Turns out I didn't have a good picture of these tail lights post-installation, mostly because I took videos instead to show friends the startup sequence. Apologies for the anachronism!
Did my free HPDE at Pacific Raceways (ran by Proformance Racing School). I'm a pretty conservative driver, I haven't hit triple digits in over ten years (I had a few reckless years in my early 20's) and I typically match traffic speeds or drive the speed limit. Proformance did an amazing job at layering on skills and comfort levels until I was totally at ease with doing triple digits in the straights. The instructors were charismatic and kind, but didn't hold back on feedback. Would definitely recommend!
WrapJax in Woodinville, WA did amazing job wrapping my 86 in Teckwrap Midnight Purple. People definitely notice the car a lot more now, lol.
It's quite the dynamic color that is hard to photograph. In the sunlight it can appear quite pinkish-purple, but in the shade it generally looks bluish-purple. Either way, I like it a lot!
Hello, world!
